A part of working from home, at least for me, is learning to live frugally. Part necessity, part philosophy, I try to pay the very least for the things I want and need. In today's world where prices are rising daily, it just makes sense to get the most bang for your buck.
I created a Squidoo lens addressing these issues called Living Frugally - How to Get What You Want and Need for Less. Check it out. I'd love to hear your suggestions. If you know of some fantastic online resources for frugal living, send me links so I can share them.

Got this lovely little email today from email address service3256@usa.com. It said it was from the Department of the Treasury. First of all, the IRS and Dept. of Treasury do not communicate with taxpayers via email. Secondly, they know how to spell. The email has typos. The "click here" link takes you to a site that looks like it's official, but it asks for credit card information along with your social security number and claims you can receive your refund on your Visa or Mastercard.
Just amazing. Do not be fooled by these emails. They are criminals trying to steal your identity and banking information. If you get an email like this, copy the full header and forward it to phishing@irs.gov.
Using my favorite header tool http://headertool.apelord.com/ , I discovered that this email originated in the UK.
So check out this email. Notice how poorly written it is and the numerous errors in it. It's a good thing that these scammers aren't smart enough to be able to write properly or they might fool even more people.

we have determined that you are eligible to receive
a tax refund under section 501(c) (3) of the
Internal Revenue Code. Tax refund value is $189.60.
Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 6-9 days
in order to IWP the data received.
If u don't receive your refund within 9 business
days from the original IRS mailing date shown,
you can start a refund trace online.
If you distribute funds to other organization, your records must show wether
they are exempt under section 497 (c) (15). In cases where the recipient org.
is not exempt under section 497 (c) (15), you must have evidence the funds will
be used for section 497 (c) (15) purposes.
If you distribute fund to individuals, you should keep case histories showing
the recipient's name and address; the purpose of the award; the maner of
section; and the realtionship of the recipient to any of your officers, directors,
trustees, members, or major contributors.

One thing that has enhanced my life greatly is reading. When searching for options on working from home, I read a lot of books, blogs, articles...anything I could get my hands on. The first book I ever read that had to do with working from home was "Making a Living Without a Job" by Barbara J. Winter. It truly inspired me and opened my eyes to the many possibilities there are for someone who wants to earn income without a traditional job. Since then I have read many books, articles, blogs etc. on working from home and each has given me great ideas, resources and inspiration.
I encourage everyone to check out the many books Amazon has to offer on the topic of making a living. I put together the Eclectic WAHM Bookstore to create a resource of all the books I could find about telecommuting, business ideas and anything to do with working from home. Check it out if you get a chance - you may find just what you need to inspire you or get you on the right track for your at home career!

On another note...I have been doing more reading lately. I recently had one of those birthdays. You know, those certain milestones that make you sit back and think "What have I done with my life? What am I doing with my life? What do I want to be when I grow up?" Something I realized was that I was ready - more than ready - to finally finish something I started a long time ago. I thought "well, I work from home...can I go to school from home?" The answer to that question was a resounding YES! Since I really enjoy web design, computers and marketing, I found a program that was a great fit for me. I'm now enrolled in the University of Phoenix online program to get my Bachelor of Science in IT/Multimedia & Visual Communication degree. I was astounded to find that many of the credits from :::ahem::: about 20 years ago actually transferred, so I am closer to my degree than I even imagined. It's really exciting to be back in school with a real goal in mind. I love learning in the online environment. Doing it this way makes my schedule so much easier.
If you've been thinking about going back to school check out University of Phoenix. The people there I've encountered have been so helpful. The instructors are great, my academic, financial and admissions counselors have all been fabulous. I was able to get Federal student loans and a grant, so I've had no out of pocket expenses so far. It's been a great experience and I'd recommend them to anyone looking to further their education.
I haven't been spending as much time on my Squidoo lenses as I'd like lately, but I'll be catching up there very soon.
